Haryana: Police registers case against Midwife under PCPNDT ACT


CHANDIGARH: While continuing its drive to curb the menace of female foeticide, Haryana Police has registered a case against Auxiliary Nurse Midwife Rajinder Kaur who was allegedly involved in selective sex abortion case at Mehtabgarh in district Ambala.
Stating this today, a spokesman of Haryana Health Department said that while the ANM has been put behind bars, the Police was considering action against the women namely Neeru, who got her abortion done and her relatives involved in the act. This woman hails from district Patiala in Punjab.
He said that strict legal action would be taken against those involved in sex determination tests and selective sex abortion. He said that the campaign against sex selection has been yielding positive results with cooperation of district administration and people.
He said that the Government has announced a prize money of Rs 20,000 for those giving information about sex determination cases and the name of informer is not disclosed. He said that under Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques (PNDT) Act and Medical Termination of Pregnancy (MTP) Act, 19 such cases had been registered in Ambala district in the year 2011 and at present these cases were being dealt by various court.
