SC/ST population has better sex ratio in Goa

PANAJI: The sex ratio among scheduled caste (SC) and scheduled tribe (ST) population has increased as compared to the general population, the census 2011 data released by the directorate of census operations has revealed.

The total ratio of the general population is 973women for 1000 men, whereas there are 1015 women and 1046 women among the SC and ST population respectively.

The scheduled tribe population has increased tremendously from a mere 566 in 2001 to 1, 49,275 in 2011 whereas the scheduled caste has increased from 23,871 to 25,449.

The total population of the state in 2001 was 13, 47,668. There has been an increase of 8.23% which made the population 14, 58,545 in 2011 with 7,39,140 males and 7,19,405 females. The urban areas have shown a great increase in population from 6, 70,577 to 9, 06,814, while the rural population has decreased from 6, 77,091 to 5, 51,731.
